Valuable mountain timber from the forests of the Mur Valley

The green heart of Styria, the Mur Valley, is home to our most valuable raw material. Here, spruce grows at altitudes of between 700 and 1,200 meters in a particularly sheltered environment. These natural conditions ensure tight growth rings and exceptional stability of the material. Pabst has been processing this regional mountain wood into high-quality solid wood products with passion and respect for nature for 85 years. This is how we bring real nature directly into your building project.

Regional spruce wood from high altitudes

Thanks to slow growth over 700 m, our wood offers narrow annual rings and high dimensional stability. PABST uses this regional advantage for durable products with maximum strength.

Conserving resources through regional recycling management

Short transport distances of less than 100 km and 100% recycling of the raw material protect the environment. Pabst guarantees climate-neutral building materials by binding CO₂ and using energy efficiently.

Interesting facts about our regional raw material

Transparency and trust are the basis of our work. In our FAQs, you can find out more about the origin of our wood, the advantages of slow growth in mountainous areas and how we ensure sustainable value creation in Styria through regional partnerships.

We source our logs primarily from a catchment area of around 100 km around our Obdach and Zeltweg sites. The main regions are the Mur and Mürztal valleys, the Ennstal valley and the Lavanttal valley. This regional proximity ensures short distances and strengthens the local forestry industry.

At altitudes above 700 m (up to 1,500 m), spruce grows more slowly due to the climatic conditions. This results in fine annual rings, which makes the wood particularly stable, resilient and of high quality. Pabst uses this natural quality as the basis for all solid wood products.

For us, sustainability means taking only as much as grows back. We recycle 100% of the tree: Main products for construction, residual wood for AlpenSpan and pellets. We also use bark to generate heat and operate photovoltaics for CO₂-neutral production.

We have been working with regional forest owners, farmers and Admont Abbey for decades on the basis of handshake quality. Our forestry service actively supports partners with logging, silvicultural advice and funding applications in order to preserve the forest for future generations.
